What is Lenfi (LENFI)?

Lenfi is a decentralized lending and borrowing protocol operating on the Cardano blockchain. It was initially known as Aada Finance before rebranding to Lenfi. The primary purpose of Lenfi is to enable users to deposit various cryptocurrencies to earn interest, or to borrow digital assets by providing collateral. A key innovation of Lenfi is its utilization of "NFT bonds." These unique NFTs tokenize loan positions, allowing lenders and borrowers to freely transfer and trade their loans. The platform offers two main decentralized applications (dApps): Aada Finance (V1), which facilitates peer-to-peer (P2P) loans, and Lenfi (V2), which introduced isolated pool markets and supports pooled lending and flash loans. The V2 dApp was launched in February 2024. The native token, LENFI, functions as both a utility and governance token within the protocol. Holders of LENFI can participate in the protocol's on-chain governance by submitting and voting on various proposals, such as adding or removing tokens and adjusting transaction fees. Additionally, LENFI can be used as collateral for loans on the platform. Lenfi emphasizes permissionless liquidity, allowing any user to create their own lending pool and manage it, receiving a transferable Pool Manager NFT in the process. The protocol also supports native asset lending and borrowing, where a borrower can request one Cardano-native asset, use another as collateral, and pay interest with a third. The isolated pool markets in Lenfi V2 are designed to enhance security by containing potential smart contract breaches to individual pools, rather than affecting the entire protocol. The project was founded by Rytis and Mantas Andriuska in 2021. Lenfi has undergone audits by Vacuum Labs to ensure the security of its platform. Its use cases include strategies like shorting, longing, yield farming, borrowing and trading stablecoins, earning interest, and flash loans. The team is also exploring future developments such as Xlend, a Catalyst proposal for leveraged trading leveraging Lenfi V2 pools. Learn more

Lenfi (LENFI) FAQ

Lenfi, previously known as Aada Finance, is a decentralized lending and borrowing protocol operating on the Cardano blockchain. It facilitates both peer-to-peer (P2P) loans through its V1 platform and is designed to introduce isolated pool markets in its V2. A core feature of both versions is the utilization of NFT bonds to tokenize loans, which enables these loans to be easily transferred and traded. This innovative approach to loan representation on the blockchain is a defining characteristic of the platform's offering.
There is currently no definitive timeline for the relaunch of Lenfi V2. The development team previously identified a critical vulnerability in the smart contract code, which prompted a withdrawal period for all pool participants and the secure transfer of remaining assets into a Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU). Although the identified vulnerability has since been patched and updated on GitHub, the code has not yet been redeployed. Prior to its initial launch, V2 had undergone a security audit by a third-party blockchain security firm.
The lead developer, Mantas, ceased communication with the community in January 2025, leading to various community speculations. Theories circulating include the possibility of him being under a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with an unknown entity, or that legal requirements in Lithuania might restrict his communication until the project achieves full compliance. Another theory suggests he might have stepped back due to a lack of funding, though the ongoing maintenance of V1 contradicts this. Some community members also believe that a "toxic" environment from traders contributed to his withdrawal.
The LENFI token serves several key utilities. In V1, it can be utilized as collateral for loans and for interest payments. Importantly, LENFI grants voting power within the Aada DAO, empowering holders to actively participate in governance by submitting and voting on proposals that shape the protocol's future. Additionally, holders can provide liquidity and earn rewards on decentralized exchanges. Planned utility for V2 includes earning LENFI rewards by staking in the Safety Module, which would entitle stakers to a percentage of transaction fees generated by the protocol.
Lenfi V1, accessible via its application, has been operational and consistently maintained in production for an extended period without any reported security incidents. While acknowledging that no decentralized protocol can offer absolute security guarantees, its peer-to-peer (P2P) lending model is sometimes regarded as having a more distributed and therefore potentially safer attack surface compared to traditional pool-based lending systems. This architectural choice contributes to its perceived resilience, having withstood the test of time in a live environment.
Lenfi distinguishes itself from other leading lending protocols, such as those that utilize pooled assets for maximum liquidity, where collateral often earns interest. Lenfi, conversely, uses a model of paired pools, which can sometimes lead to market fragmentation. A key difference is that collateral in Lenfi does not typically accrue interest. This often makes achieving a net positive interest rate (being paid to borrow) less common compared to some larger, pooled lending platforms. The Lenfi team's focus on decentralization and immutable contracts has influenced their choice of a paired-pool model over true pooled lending.
