GLADIUS was conceived as a decentralized solution leveraging blockchain technology to protect users against Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks and to expedite content delivery. The project aimed to create a peer-to-peer network where users could rent out their spare bandwidth to contribute to a distributed defense system and content delivery network, earning GLADIUS tokens in return.
The GLADIUS (GLA) token was intended to be the native cryptocurrency within the Gladius network. Users who rented out their unused bandwidth to assist with DDoS protection or content delivery would earn GLA tokens. These tokens could then be used by website owners to pay for the decentralized DDoS protection and content acceleration services offered by the network.
Gladius was founded in 2017 by Max Niebylski, Alex Godwin, and Marcelo McAndrew.
Multiple crypto data platforms and news sources indicate that the GLADIUS project is largely 'inactive' or lacks sufficient data and community activity. The company, Gladius Network LLC, ceased operations and filed for dissolution in November 2019.
Gladius Network LLC shut down after settling with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) over its unregistered Initial Coin Offering (ICO).
