Harmony Horizon Bridged DAI is a digital token that exists on the Harmony blockchain, specifically within Shard 0 of its network. This token is a bridged version of DAI, a popular decentralized stablecoin originally created on the Ethereum network. It was brought to the Harmony ecosystem through the Horizon Bridge, which is a cross-chain protocol designed to allow assets to move between different blockchains like Ethereum, Binance Smart Chain, and Harmony. Under normal operation, the Horizon Bridge works by locking the original DAI tokens in a smart contract on the Ethereum side and then minting an equivalent amount of bridged DAI on the Harmony side. This process is intended to ensure that every bridged token on Harmony is backed one to one by the original asset held in reserve. In June 2022, the Horizon Bridge experienced a major security breach. Attackers managed to compromise the private keys of the multi-signature wallet that secured the bridge.
