Lisk Bridged wstETH is a digital asset that represents Lido Wrapped Staked Ether on the Lisk network. To understand this project, it is helpful to look at both the Lisk platform and the nature of the wstETH token itself. Lisk recently underwent a significant transformation, moving from its original Layer 1 blockchain architecture to becoming an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution. This transition was achieved by utilizing the OP Stack, a set of software components maintained by the Optimism Collective. By operating as a Layer 2 on Ethereum, Lisk aims to provide faster transactions and lower costs while maintaining a connection to the security and liquidity of the Ethereum mainnet. The asset wstETH, or Wrapped Staked Ether, is a product of Lido Finance, a popular liquid staking protocol. When users stake their Ethereum through Lido, they usually receive stETH in return. However, stETH uses a rebasing mechanism where the balance in a users wallet changes frequently to reflect staking rewards. This mechanism can be difficult for some decentralized finance protocols to handle. To solve this, wstETH was created as a non-rebasing version. Instead of the balance changing, the value of the wstETH token increases relative to stETH as rewards accumulate. The Lisk Bridged version of this token is created when a user moves their wstETH from the Ethereum mainnet to the Lisk Layer 2. This process is handled by a bridge, which locks the original tokens on the Ethereum side and issues an equivalent amount of bridged tokens on the Lisk side. The primary purpose of Lisk Bridged wstETH is to allow users within the Lisk ecosystem to utilize their staked Ethereum in various decentralized applications, such as lending platforms or decentralized exchanges, without having to unstake their original assets. This allows participants to remain eligible for Ethereum staking rewards while participating in the growing ecosystem of applications being built on the Lisk Layer 2 network.
