MONERIUM EUR EMONEY (EURE) FAQ
What is the difference between EURe and other stablecoins?
Most stablecoins are classified as "crypto-assets," whereas EURe is legally recognized as Electronic Money. This distinct classification means EURe is a 1:1 digital representation of euros held in a segregated bank account, issued by a licensed Electronic Money Institution (EMI). Crucially, EURe is fully compliant with the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), providing a clear regulatory framework from issuance.
Is Monerium EURe regulated?
Yes, Monerium EURe is fully regulated. It is issued by Monerium EMI ehf., which operates under the authorization and supervision of the Central Bank of Iceland. This ensures adherence to strict European e-money directives, providing a robust and compliant framework for its operation.
What happens if Monerium goes bankrupt?
Should Monerium face insolvency, user funds are safeguarded under European e-money law. These funds are held in legally segregated bank accounts, ensuring they remain entirely separate from Monerium's operational assets. This protection means user capital is shielded from creditors and cannot be used to settle corporate debts.
How does the Web3 IBAN work?
The Web3 IBAN provides a direct bridge between traditional banking and blockchain. Monerium assigns a personal IBAN that is directly linked to your digital wallet address. When fiat euros are sent to this IBAN via SEPA, they are automatically converted ("minted") into EURe tokens in your linked wallet. Conversely, sending EURe from your wallet to any IBAN "burns" the tokens and transfers the equivalent fiat euros to the target bank account.
Are there fees for minting or redeeming EURe?
Monerium generally does not levy direct fees for the 1:1 conversion process when minting or redeeming EURe via SEPA transfers. This means the primary on-ramp and off-ramp functionalities are free of service charges. However, users should always account for standard blockchain network gas fees when performing on-chain EURe transactions.
Do I need to do KYC to use EURe?
Yes, full Know Your Customer (KYC) verification is mandatory to utilize EURe's mint/burn features, including obtaining a personal Web3 IBAN for fiat on-ramp and off-ramp. This is a regulatory requirement for e-money issuance. Once EURe tokens are in circulation, they can be held or transacted in decentralized wallets like any other compatible digital asset, subject to any platform-specific rules.
