Its primary focus is to achieve trustless cross-chain interoperability, enabling seamless data transfer and communication between different blockchain ecosystems without relying on centralized intermediaries. The initial distribution of FLR tokens commenced on January 9, 2023. This first phase involved the release of 15% of the total public distribution. This initial amount was primarily distributed as an airdrop to eligible participants, marking the first step in making the token available to the community.
Eligibility for the initial FLR token airdrop was determined by a snapshot taken on December 12, 2020. Individuals who held XRP at that specific time were qualified to receive FLR tokens. This mechanism ensured that long-term supporters of the XRP ecosystem were recognized and included in the Flare Network's genesis distribution.
The remaining 85% of FLR tokens are scheduled for distribution in 36 monthly installments. The specific method for these subsequent distributions hinges on the outcome of Flare Improvement Proposal 01 (FIP.01). If FIP.01 is accepted by the community, these tokens will be shared among wallets that actively wrap their FLR into WFLR. However, if FIP.01 is rejected, the same self-custody wallets and exchanges that participated in the initial airdrop will continue to receive the monthly distributions directly.
