YAM (YAM) FAQ
What happened to the original YAM token (V1)?
In August 2020, shortly after launch, a critical bug was discovered in the rebasing contract. This bug minted an excessive number of tokens to the project's treasury, making it impossible for the community to reach a quorum to fix the issue. This effectively disabled the governance of the original treasury and led to the creation of subsequent token versions.
Does Yam Finance still use an elastic supply or rebasing mechanism?
No. While Yam Finance originally pioneered the elastic supply model to maintain a peg, the community voted to disable the rebasing mechanism in December 2020. The scaling factor was fixed, and YAM transitioned into a standard governance token. It no longer automatically adjusts its supply.
How do I migrate my old YAM tokens to the current version?
The migration windows for transitioning from V1 to V2 and then to V3 have largely closed. YAMv3 is the current official version of the token. As the project is in a legacy state, liquidity for older versions is non-existent, and the official migration processes are no longer the primary focus of the DAO.
What is the current status and utility of the YAM token?
The project is currently in a stagnant or legacy state. YAM primarily functions as a governance token, allowing holders to vote on how the Yam Treasury assets are managed or spent. Discussions have recently focused on whether to dissolve the DAO and distribute the remaining treasury assets to token holders.
Was Yam Finance a rug pull or a scam?
No. Yam Finance is considered a failed experiment rather than a scam. It featured a "fair launch" where founders received no initial token allocation. The developers publicly apologized for the technical errors in the original code, and the project has undergone multiple security audits since the V1 failure to ensure the safety of the current ecosystem.
What was the 2022 governance attack on Yam Finance?
In July 2022, a malicious actor attempted a governance takeover by submitting a hidden proposal designed to transfer the treasury assets to their own wallet. The community and developers successfully detected the attempt and thwarted the attack by canceling the proposal before it could be executed.
